Road to Mania 41
The World Heavyweight Championship between "Main Event" Jey Uso and "Ring General" Gunther started out as what many WWE fans deemed a mediocre feud. After his win at the Royal Rumble, Jey posed the biggest threat to Gunther's seemingly unstoppable title reign at WrestleMania 41.
The feud had tons of potential, however they went several weeks without any real development aside from Jey's lack of confidence in his WrestleMania match. That is, until the 3/31/25 episode of Monday Night RAW, where Gunther defeated Jey's twin brother Jimmy in a singles match following the harsh slap to the face from Jimmy the week prior.
After the initial defeat, Jey came out to the ring to defend his brother, which resulted in Gunther zip-tying Jey to the ring ropes and brutalizing Jimmy, adding injury to insult having just beaten him in their match minutes earlier. While Jey watched on helplessly, Gunther nailed Jimmy in the head with his Heavyweight Championship belt and busted his head open. Then, to make the feud personal and add intrigue to an otherwise slow build to their Championship match at WrestleMania, Gunther choked Jimmy out cold while they were both covered in Jimmy's blood. Gunther then went on to lick and wipe the blood all over his body, all while Jey watched on from the ropes.
On the following week's episode of RAW (4/7/25) during a promo with Gunther, Jey revealed that Jimmy had been hospitalized for his injuries and received 15 stitches across his forehead. He also told Gunther that the twins' mother had asked Jey why he didn't protect his older brother. At this point for Jey, the feud became more about revenge and vengeance for his twin than his lack of confidence. During this same promo, Jey told Gunther, "I'm going to ask the Lord to forgive me for the man I'm about to become. I'm going to get you for my twin, for my family, and for me."
WrestleMania 41
Jey Uso and Gunther had the opening match card at WrestleMania 41 in Las Vegas.
The match began with an intense stare-down, and Jey made the first move with an elbow/collar tie-up. This move began an intense match that lasted for a total of 17 minutes.
Gunther then slapped Jey and Jey countered by a slap of his own which made Gunther roll out of the ring in order to gather himself. Both men then go for shoulder tackles at each other, and Gunther used a chop to throw Jey off. Jey strikes back with a step-up enzuigiri, which resulted in Gunther rolling out of the ring to readjust himself and reevaluate the situation again. They each went on for a while with chops and body slams.
Jey went for an Uso Splash from the top rope but Gunther hit him with another chop to the chest, which sent Jey over the top ropes and into the floor. When he got back into the ring, Gunther hit him with an upper cut and more chops to the chest. Gunther threw Jey into the turnbuckle and goes for a run at him but Jey catches him with a spear for the pin. Gunther kicks out at 2 1/2. Following this, Gunther went for a PowerBomb that Jey turned into a Samoan Drop. Jey attempted to get to the top rope for another Uso Splash, however Gunther stopped him with a German Suplex from the rope. Gunther hit the PowerBomb and pin on Jey and Jey kicked at 2.
Gunther attempted another PowerBomb on Jey, however Jey rolled out of it and hit Gunther with a spear. Following this, Jey went for another Uso Splash and pin on Gunther, however Gunther kicked out at 2. Frustrated with the way the match was going, Gunther grabbed the Heavyweight Championship Belt, meanwhile, Jey went for a flying clothesline, but before he could make contact, Gunther hit him with the belt much like he did to Jimmy weeks prior. While Jey is down, Gunther went for an Uso Splash and pinned Jey, but Jey kicked out at 2.
After Jey got back up, Jey instigated Gunther by laughing at him and telling him to "just bring it." Gunther attempted a clothesline to Jey that he wasn't phased by, staying on his feet, but just laughed more. Gunther then kicked Jey in the jaw and Jey stumbled backward, but hit Gunther with a clothesline to knock him down. Gunther attempted a choke out from the back on Jey that he got out of and hit a German suplex. Gunther then drop kicked Jey and went for a PowerBomb that Jey flips out of and Jey turns it around and hit the PowerBomb and a superkick on Gunther.
Both men were frustrated, but determined. Jey hit Gunther with a spear, 3 Uso Splashes, and put Gunther in a sleeper hold that Gunther taps out of.
"Main Event" Jey Uso finally has his WrestleMania moment he spent so many years striving for, becoming the New World Heavyweight Champion. Jey got to celebrate his new victory with Jimmy, who hadn't been seen on air or in-ring until now.
